Egg freezing, also known as mature oocyte cryopreservation, is a technique used to preserve a woman’s future fertility. Unfertilized eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and frozen for later use. When needed, the frozen egg is thawed, combined with sperm in a laboratory through in vitro fertilization, and the resulting embryo is placed in the uterus.
